Vertical cracks are rarely a serious problem. Most are hairline cracks caused by shrinkage and stress. Seepage through these can be easily controlled.

Larger cracks without horizontal movement can be controlled either with an injection of hydphobic Urethane or a quality seal. This also applies to sealing sewer lines

Cracks with horizontal movement should be evaluated by a structural engineer for the cause. This crack can be sealed with epoxy resin
